Nosie Origin Story

It all started because my ex-husband used to like to kiss my nose. One morning, we were eating pancakes and he asked me what was my “nosie” was doing. I said that my nose was singing and dancing in the syrup. After that, we were making up stories to amuse ourselves. Sometime later, I started to think that stories about the “secret life” of noses could be a good series for children. The premise is that if a child ‘s nosie is a partner in adventures that involve being kind to children who are different, caring for animals, loving your family, and trying new things.

The nose cartoons that I use are of different ethnic backgrounds, skin tones and they have drawn faces. I am going for diversity.
I am deeply committed to tolerance and diversity because I live with a significant disability and I find that the world is not always friendly to me. Truth to be told, most of the negativity I experience in my daily life has to do with a lack of understanding and education in the general population. Specifically, it still seems to be rare that people see a disabled person out in the world living a regular life.

So, Nosie Adventures was born. I self-publish on Amazon. I don’t sell many, so I have been taking on-line classes to improve my knowledge of writing children’s books and on-line marketing.
This week, I decided to discount my e-books to .99 cents each, so I boosted a post on facebook. I got an avalanche of negative reaction, and I am scratching my head. Does a cartoon of a little brown nose with sun glasses and a baseball cap really upset people that much? Do they not like ads for a sale? Do they have the same reaction to other advertising in their feed?

I reported the senders of the most profane posts to facebook. I hid their posts. I am so angry and hurt. But then I think- well, the negativity is more about the poster. It really has nothing to do with me. They don’t know me. I am not going to stop. It shows me that this is evidence of the need for messages of tolerance and diversity to get further out there.

The biggest question of all is how do I advertise? Please do me a favor. If you have time, go to the website www.nosieadventures.com. You don’t have to buy anything, just look around. If you think the books are “too far out there” let me know. Send feedback to nosieadventures@gmail.com.
